How to create a thrifted home

Many people are intrigued by the possibility of thrifted homes but may not know how to start. Done properly, it can be a cost-effective way to create a distinctive and characterful home, but you do need patience and an open-minded approach.

Find your vendors

You can search offline, in car boot sales and charity shops, or use online marketplaces. If using the internet, pick two or three sites that are secure and reliable rather than endlessly browsing through every dubious retailer. Be extra careful if collecting items in person.

Learn thrifting slang

Thrifting has its own acronyms and phrasing to inform you whether an item is new, used, in good or bad condition and its time period. Other specific languages may tell you about availability or whether the price is negotiable. Examples include EUC (excellent used condition) and OBO (or best offer).

Experiment

Do not become too fixated on what you want or where you will put it. Be flexible and play around with different items and how they work together. You can combine your thrifted items with non-thrifted purchases. Or add some hand-crafted accessories with a crochet or knitting kit from www.woolcouturecompany.com or another provider.

Transport your discoveries

If you do not have a vehicle able to transport your purchases, you may be able to hire one, either online or through an app.

Cleaning

Your purchases will not always be in the best shape. Therefore, before you situate them in pride of place in your home, make sure they have been cleaned and disinfected.

There is no one set way to thrift a home successfully. It is an ongoing process that requires a certain amount of adaptability. With time and care, you could end up with the perfect home, even if it is not exactly what you imagined.
