Ensuring that your Journey to Your Holiday Destination Goes Smoothly

When packing up to go on holiday, we all think about the essentials – sun protection, brollies (if we are holidaying in the UK) and all the clothes and shoes that we need for the break. But something else that you should always check before you go away is your car, as well as the route that you will take to get to your destination.

Whether you are driving to an airport or to a holiday location in the UK, it is important to be aware of the roads that you are going to be taking there, to reduce the risk of any nasty surprises. Road closures are fairly common at this time of year, either caused by the large amount of traffic on the road due to holidaymakers, as well as road works that are scheduled to be done outside of the school holidays. It is always good to check before you set off on your journey if there are any road closures in place.

Something else you should do, especially if you are not familiar with motorways driving is have a look through the highway code. Look for things that apply to where you are going, such as what chapter 8 chevrons  like this vehiclechevrons.com mean, and the rules for towing vehicles on the motorway if you are going to be taking a caravan with you.

You should also check that your car is fit to travel – have it serviced before you go, and check basics like the oil and water levels, as well as the tyres.
