How different personality styles can affect teams

Working in a team can be incredibly rewarding, especially when you all reach the end goal and your line manager celebrates by giving you Corporate Gift Boxes that you can all enjoy together. But it can also be a difficult time as lots of different personalities come together. In some cases this can be beneficial and help to boost each other’s strengths and also to compensate for others weaknesses. However there are also instances when it can lead to a breakdown in communication and tensions to rise.

This can be very common when teams are first established or new members join as everyone tries to work out what their roles are within the teams and they also try to suss out the others in the team. It can also be a problem when there is a mix of introverts and extroverts in a team, although this is the perfect team dynamic.

If you had a team that was made up solely of extraverts you might find that less work gets done and that little details can be lost, also you would probably find that it would be a very noisy work environment. However, a team of introverts would be equally difficult to work with as they would tend to keep themselves to themselves and would be less inclined to discuss and share roles within the project.
