One of the deadliest health emergencies that can happen are cardiac arrests. This is something that can strike at any time – sometimes you may be aware that it has a cause, such as from a large electric shock, a loss of a lot of blood or a drug overdose. In some cases, however, it is something that can come from nowhere and can be triggered by a range of underlying conditions such as myocarditis which is where the heart muscle is inflamed.

Cardiac arrest and a heart attack are different – if someone goes into cardiac arrest, a few things that you will notice are that the person loses consciousness and if they are sitting or standing, they will collapse. They will have no pulse and will not be breathing. It can appear to come from nowhere, but in some cases, a person might have signs that they are about to suffer a cardiac arrest, which include shortness of breath and heart palpitations.

All in all, it is a very serious medical emergency, so having someone around who is first aid trained when this happens is crucial and could save the person’s life.
